  • Intern Story : Henry Lee, Living with Garbage

    October 4, 2017
I was shocked when I saw this - a huge garbage mountain was right next to the gorgeous rice fields. The smell nearly made me threw up. Aside to the trash mountain is a small slum built by paper boxes, where people pick up recycling materials from the trash for a living. For sure this is not somewhere tourists usually visit, yet it shocked me when I realised I had been enjoying the beautiful side of the country only. Behind the scenes are indeed people working, and let’s not forget about them. Travelling does not mean to consume the country.Let’s not travel to see the beautiful side of the country merely. Travel with a cause to create positive values. Travel and think how could we empower as individuals

  • Changemaker Story : Bowo

    September 10, 2017
"Upon finishing my study in painting in Jakarta, I found a job in a mall where I made and fixed children amusement rides such as cable car and merry-go-round. I regard crafting as my hobby. It is where my joy and happiness come from. I love creating things using my imaginations. There are so many underprivileged children here like poor kids and school drop-out students. I want to encourage them to use imagination to create things with me to fulfill their potential. I hope they would not be wandering around the street anymore when they learn to do crafting work." • Changemaker Story : Andika

    September 1, 2017
"I am an elementary school sports education teacher. During my study in university, I joined a green organisation which intrigued my interest towards a green lifestyle. I decided to first make a change in my village as villagers litter everywhere although trash cans were set up. Therefore I set up recycling bins to collect domestic wastes and plastic wastes. I promoted the benefits of recycling with some youth ambassadors in the village. In 6 months time, I reduced the total waste disposed in the village from 12-16kL to 2-4kL per month. It was a great success in raising villagers' green awareness." -Want to be part of the change makers? Support us at www.kitatimba.com!
